In short
- Rate and comment on whiskies you have tried, honestly and respectfully.
- No insults, spam, links, personal data or content that encourages excessive drinking.
- If something breaks the rules, we hide it and tell you why. You can appeal.
WhiskyMatch works thanks to the opinions of people who enjoy whisky. These guidelines keep those opinions useful and trustworthy. You accept them when you create your account, and they complement the legal notice.
1. What we expect from you
- Rate what you have tried. Your score and your comment must be based on your experience with that whisky, not on its reputation or on what you have heard.
- Rate honestly. A sincere 5 helps more than a polite 10. And “I didn’t like it” is valid, if you explain it respectfully.
- One rating per whisky. You can edit or delete it whenever you like, but you can’t have several for the same one.
- Talk about the whisky. Describe what you smell, what you taste, how you drank it and whether you think it is worth the price.
- Respect other people. Here you can disagree without being rude.
2. What is not allowed
- Insults, harassment, discrimination, threats or hate speech.
- Spam, advertising, offers, discount codes or links. A comment with links, contact details or code is not published: we warn you before you send it so you can remove them.
- Personal data about you or other people (phone numbers, addresses, full names…).
- Illegal content or content that infringes third-party rights, including text copied from other websites.
- Opinions on whiskies you have not tried.
- Paid reviews or reviews with an undisclosed link to a brand, distillery or shop. If you have a commercial relationship with a product, don’t rate it, or say so clearly in your comment. Ratings in exchange for money, gifts or perks are not accepted.
- Duplicate accounts, mass voting or any attempt to manipulate scores.
- Content that encourages drinking too much or too fast, that presents alcohol as a path to social or sexual success, performance or health, that is linked to driving, or that involves minors.
3. What ratings and comments look like
- Comments are plain text, up to 1,000 characters.
- Your display name appears next to your comments. Don’t use someone else’s or an offensive one.
- What you earn for rating (experience points) is the same whatever the score. We never reward high scores, only taking part.
4. How we moderate
- Automatic filters. When you publish, a filter checks the text: if it has links, contact details, code or words from a list, it is not published and we tell you why. An automatic classification system may also be used; this is explained in the privacy policy.
- Reports. Any registered person can report a comment with the “Report” button. When three different people do so, the comment is hidden until a person reviews it.
- Review. A person reviews pending comments and decides whether they are shown or hidden.
You can also tell us about illegal or harmful content through the contact form, with the link and the reason. We act promptly once we have actual knowledge of illegal content.
5. What happens if they are broken
- The content is hidden if it breaks the rules. We tell you why and how to appeal.
- If it is repeated or serious (spam, paid reviews, manipulation, harassment, illegal content), the account may be temporarily suspended or closed, and its content removed.
If you think we got it wrong, write to us through the contact form explaining your case. We will review it and reply with the outcome and the reason.
6. Your content is yours
You remain the author of what you publish. You give us permission to show it on the site, as explained in the legal notice. If you delete your account, it disappears.
