2. What WhiskyMatch is

WhiskyMatch is an informational website about whisky. It helps you find the one that best suits your taste through pages with flavour profiles, ratings from registered people, a taste quiz, a personal cellar and, once there are active links, a price comparison.

WhiskyMatch does not sell alcoholic drinks. There is no shop or shopping cart. If you decide to buy a whisky, you do so on a third-party shop’s website, under its own terms. Some links to those shops are affiliate links: see the affiliate disclosure.

3. Terms of use

By browsing this site or creating an account, you accept these terms.

  • Age. The site is aimed only at people over 18. By entering you confirm that you are, and by signing up you confirm it again. If you are under 18, do not use the website.
  • Lawful use. Use the site in good faith and in accordance with the law, these terms and the community guidelines.
  • Account. Creating an account is free and no password is needed. You are responsible for keeping access to your email or your Google account and for what is done with your session. You can delete the account whenever you like from your profile.
  • Automated use. Bulk or automated extraction of the site’s content (whisky pages, texts, flavour profiles or ratings) and overloading the service are not allowed. If you need data for a project, write to the contact email.
  • Security. Do not try to access parts of the site that are not open to the public, alter how it works or impersonate other people.

4. Users’ ratings and comments

Ratings and comments are written by registered people and are the responsibility of whoever publishes them. WhiskyMatch does not necessarily share those opinions.

By publishing a rating or a comment, you grant WhiskyMatch a non-exclusive, free, worldwide licence to display them on the site and in aggregated summaries (for example, a whisky’s average score). You remain the author. If you delete your account, your ratings and comments are deleted and the summaries are recalculated.

You can report any content with the “Report” button or by writing to the contact email. How we act is explained in the community guidelines.

5. Intellectual and industrial property

  • The texts, whisky pages, flavour profiles, design, illustrations and code of WhiskyMatch are original or used under licence. You may not copy, distribute or transform them without permission, except where the law allows it (for example, a short quotation with a link to the source).
  • The names of whiskies, distilleries and brands belong to their owners and are used only to identify the products descriptively. WhiskyMatch has no connection with them, nor is it sponsored or endorsed by any of them. Pages may use colours that evoke a brand’s look, but never its logos or its labels.
  • Basic distillery data comes partly from Wikidata, published under a CC0 licence.
  • If you believe some content infringes your rights, use the contact form saying which content it is and why, and we will review it promptly.

6. The site’s information is for guidance

We do our best to keep the data accurate, but it may contain errors or become outdated. Some flavour profiles and texts are estimates and are marked as such; how they are produced is explained in How it works. The English texts are translated with the help of AI. Any prices and availability shown come from the shops and may change at any time: the price that counts is the one you see on the shop’s website when you buy.

Affinity, recommendations and scores are an aid to discovery, not an objective judgement on a whisky’s quality or personalised buying advice.

7. Liability

To the extent permitted by law, WhiskyMatch is not liable for damages arising from the site being unavailable, errors in the information, users’ opinions, or the content, prices or terms of the third-party websites we link to. This does not limit the rights consumer law gives you against whoever sells you a product.

8. Responsible drinking

Drink responsibly. The sale of alcohol to anyone under 18 is prohibited. This site talks about whisky so you can get to know it and enjoy it slowly, not so you drink more. Alcohol is harmful to health: if you don’t drink, there is no reason to start, and if you do, do so in moderation.

9. Changes

We may modify this notice to adapt it to legal or service changes. The date at the top shows the latest version. If the change is important, we will let you know on the site.

10. Governing law and jurisdiction

This notice is governed by Spanish law. Any dispute will be settled by the courts that are competent under the applicable rules; if you are a consumer, those of your place of residence.
