Bunnahabhain is the other side of Islay: its main malt uses hardly any peat. The twelve-year-old combines sherry and bourbon casks and is bottled at 46.3% without chill filtration and with natural colour, according to the brand. The result is rich and briny, with nuts, dried fruit, caramel and a sea breeze. It is a malt much appreciated by those after Islay’s coastal character without intense smoke.
